Another Clock
Privacy policy
Last updated 7 September 2026
Another Clock is a desk clock. It has no accounts, never asks who you are, and has nothing to send anywhere. This policy describes exactly what the app touches, and why.
Another Clock collects no personal data and transmits none. Everything it stores stays in the app's own private storage on your device.
What the app stores on your device
Three small files of settings, kept in Android's private per-app storage. Other apps cannot read them.
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your display preferences — 12/24-hour, colour, brightness floor, ghost bars, chosen character, rebuild style | so the clock looks the same next time you open it |
| Which characters you have purchased | so paid characters stay unlocked without re-checking the store every time |
| How many times you have tipped the developer | so the button can say thank you |
None of this identifies you, and none of it leaves the device except through the Android backup described below.
The light sensor
The app reads your device's ambient light sensor to decide how bright the screen should be, so the clock dims at night. Each reading is used immediately to set the screen brightness and is never stored, logged or transmitted. If your device has no light sensor, the app follows the time of day instead.
Reading ambient light requires no permission on Android, and the app requests none.
Purchases
Paid characters are sold through Google Play Billing. The app never sees or handles your payment details — the whole transaction happens inside Google Play. When a purchase completes, the app is told which product was bought and records that product's identifier locally, so the character stays unlocked.
Google processes the payment and is the data controller for it. See Google's Privacy Policy and the Google Play Terms of Service for how Google handles that information.
The tip jar
The “Buy the developer a coffee” button is not a purchase and is entirely optional. Tapping it opens buycoffee.to in your browser and does nothing else. The app sends no information there, receives none back, and never learns whether you paid — there is nothing for it to record. Once you leave the app, buycoffee.to’s own privacy policy applies.
Network access
The app itself makes no network requests. There is no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, and no server of its own.
The app does carry the INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE
permissions. These are added automatically by the Google Play Billing library and
are used only by that library to talk to Google Play — to fetch prices and
confirm purchases. No other code in the app opens a network connection.
Android backup
The app has Android's Auto Backup enabled, which is the platform default. Android may copy the settings files described above to your own Google account, so your preferences and purchases return if you reinstall the app or set up a new device.
That backup is performed by Android, counts against your own Google Drive backup quota, and is not readable by the developer. You can turn it off in your device settings under System → Backup.
Children
The app is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, whatever their age.
Permissions, in full
| Permission | Declared by | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| com.android.vending.BILLING | Play Billing library | offering and completing in-app purchases |
| android.permission.INTERNET | Play Billing library | communicating with Google Play |
| android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Play Billing library | checking connectivity before a store request |
The ambient light sensor is declared as an optional feature rather than a permission, so that devices without one can still install the app.
Changes to this policy
If the app ever begins collecting anything, this policy will be updated before that version is published, and the date at the top will change.
